Protecting Arizona Consumers from Rising Utility Costs
Affordable and reliable utilities are essential for every Arizona family and business. As Governor, I will work to ensure that utility companies are held accountable, consumers are protected from excessive rate increases, and Arizona residents receive fair value for the services they pay for.
For too long, many consumers have felt they have little choice when it comes to utility providers. Limited competition can reduce incentives for innovation, efficiency, and cost control. I believe Arizona should explore policies that encourage greater competition where feasible, increase transparency in utility rate-setting, and give consumers a stronger voice in decisions that impact their monthly bills.
I will support stronger oversight of utility rate increases and require greater accountability when companies seek approval for significant price hikes. Utility companies should demonstrate that costs are necessary, reasonable, and in the public interest before passing those expenses on to consumers.
I also believe that utility companies should be expected to invest responsibly in their own growth and infrastructure to serve communities with their services, like other businesses. While maintaining and expanding utility systems is important for Arizona's future, consumers should not be expected to bear unnecessary costs that primarily benefit corporate profits.
My administration will work to promote affordability, reliability, transparency, and responsible investment while ensuring Arizona families, seniors, and small businesses are protected from unfair financial burdens. Arizona deserves a utility system that serves the public first and keeps essential services accessible and affordable for everyone.
