Tempe Police Ride Along
Grateful for the opportunity to join the Tempe Police Department for a ride-along today! A huge thank you to Officer Austin, Sergeant Kathi, and Sergeant Keith for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to see firsthand the work our law enforcement officers do every day. Angela and I support our law enforcement officers and remain committed to reducing crime and keeping Arizona communities safe. I believe you cannot truly help a community if you aren’t willing to step into it, listen, learn, and understand the challenges firsthand. I learn by doing—and as Governor, that will not change. I will show up, ask questions, listen to the people doing the work, and lead from what I learn on the ground. Arizona deserves leadership that is present in our communities—not just behind a desk.
A Clear Position on ICE & Immigration
Today in Flagstaff, spending time with the community, I was again asked whether I would support abolishing ICE. My answer is, and always has been, NO. We need effective law enforcement at both the state and federal levels, and our country must have a lawful, functional system for managing immigration. I believe the push to abolish ICE is often driven by fear and frustration with how immigration laws are enforced rather than a practical solution to the problems we face. At the same time, I do not support putting law enforcement above the law. A badge should never provide immunity for criminal conduct. If an officer commits a crime, that officer should be held accountable under the law. Whether the federal agency responsible for immigration enforcement is called ICE or something else isn’t what matters to me. What matters is legal immigration, secure and humane enforcement, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. We can support law enforcement while demanding accountability. We can enforce our immigration laws while treating people with dignity. Arizona deserves both.
