Tempe Tax Hikes on Residents
As a candidate for Governor, I believe local governments must be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars before asking families for more money. When cities spend millions on projects that are not essential services and then return to residents asking for tax increases, taxpayers have every right to question those decisions.
My approach would not be to take away local control from cities, but to increase transparency, accountability, and oversight of how taxpayer dollars are spent. I would support legislation requiring cities to publicly disclose major discretionary expenditures, conduct independent audits before proposing tax increases, and demonstrate that existing funds are being used efficiently before seeking additional revenue from residents.
Arizona families are already facing rising costs for housing, groceries, childcare, and utilities. Government should be held to the same standard as every household: live within its means, prioritize necessities, and eliminate waste before asking for more money.
As Governor, I will work to strengthen protections against government waste, improve financial accountability across state and local agencies, and ensure taxpayer dollars are directed toward core priorities such as public safety, infrastructure, water security, and education—not unnecessary spending projects. Tax increases should be a last resort, not a solution to poor financial management.
Reducing Taxes and Expanding Financial Freedom for Arizona Families
As Governor of Arizona, one of my top priorities will be reducing the tax burden on Arizona families, homeowners, retirees, and small businesses. Arizonans work hard for their money and deserve to keep more of what they earn.
I believe we should pursue a long-term strategy to reduce dependence on property taxes and explore pathways toward significant property tax relief, particularly for homeowners, seniors, retirees living on fixed incomes, and families struggling with rising costs of living. No one should face the fear of losing their home because they cannot keep up with increasing property tax obligations.
My administration will evaluate successful tax reform efforts from other states and identify responsible approaches that can be adapted to Arizona's unique economy and budget needs. Any tax reduction plan must be fiscally responsible, sustainable, and designed to protect essential public services while returning more money to Arizona taxpayers.
I will also work to identify wasteful spending, eliminate government inefficiencies, improve agency accountability, and ensure taxpayer dollars are being used effectively before asking residents to contribute more. Government should live within its means just as Arizona families do every day.
My goal is to create a long-term roadmap that increases affordability, encourages homeownership, attracts businesses and investment, and allows Arizona families to build wealth and financial security for future generations.
Arizona should be a state where people can afford to buy a home, retire with dignity, raise a family, and pursue their dreams without being overwhelmed by taxes. As Governor, I will fight for policies that put taxpayers first and make Arizona one of the most affordable states in the nation.
Reducing Legal Costs and Increasing Accountability in State Government
As Governor of Arizona, I will work to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, efficiently, and transparently. One area that deserves immediate review is the use of outside legal counsel by state agencies when Arizona already maintains an Attorney General's Office whose purpose includes providing legal representation and guidance to state government.
Taxpayers should expect that existing public resources are utilized effectively before millions of dollars are spent on private legal contracts. My administration will conduct a comprehensive review of state agency spending on outside attorneys, consultants, and legal services to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved accountability.
Whenever legally appropriate and practical, I will prioritize the use of the Arizona Attorney General's Office and existing state legal resources to represent agencies in lawsuits, claims, and legal matters. This approach has the potential to reduce unnecessary expenditures, improve consistency in legal strategy across state government, and strengthen public confidence that legal decisions are being made in the best interests of Arizona taxpayers.
There may be limited circumstances where specialized outside counsel is necessary, but those situations should be the exception rather than the rule and should be subject to clear oversight, transparency, and justification.
My goal is simple: reduce waste, eliminate unnecessary spending, prevent potential conflicts of interest, and ensure that taxpayer dollars are directed toward serving the people of Arizona rather than excessive government contracting. Arizona families deserve a government that is fiscally responsible, accountable, and committed to making every taxpayer dollar count.
Creating a System that Underscores Clean Business
I believe government should continuously evaluate opportunities to reduce unnecessary tax burdens, eliminate wasteful spending, and improve efficiency so that businesses can keep more of their earnings and reinvest in Arizona workers and communities. My administration will work with industry leaders, workers, and taxpayers to identify responsible tax relief measures that support economic growth while maintaining essential public services.
At the same time, I believe economic policy should be guided by what best serves Arizona families, public safety, and community well-being. Industries operating within Arizona must comply with all state and federal laws, and businesses that contribute to criminal activity, human trafficking, exploitation, or other illegal conduct should face aggressive enforcement and accountability.
My focus will be on supporting industries that create jobs, strengthen families, advance innovation, improve healthcare, expand educational opportunities, and contribute positively to Arizona's future. Through responsible tax reform, government accountability, and economic development, we can make Arizona one of the best places in the nation to live, work, start a business, and raise a family.
