Water Conservation

Arizona’s water crisis demands immediate action and long-term solutions. As Governor, I will implement conservation measures modeled after successful programs in Nevada and reduce our dependence on the Colorado River, Lake Mead, and Lake Powell. I will review and advance long-term infrastructure projects, including desalination and other sustainable water sources, to secure Arizona’s future water supply.

While short-term measures may provide temporary relief, we need permanent solutions that make Arizona drought-resistant. I will also ensure rapid growth and high-water-use industries, including data centers, are held accountable through fair taxation, stronger development standards, and responsible water and energy use requirements. Arizona must lead the nation in water security, conservation, and resilience.

Data Centers and Water

As a candidate for Governor of Arizona, I support responsible economic growth, but not at the expense of our state's water future. Data centers consume significant amounts of water and energy, and during Arizona's ongoing water crisis, they must be held to a higher standard. I will require data centers to pay their fair share in taxes and demonstrate sustainable water plans, including securing and funding their own water sources rather than drawing from already strained local supplies. Unlike the current approach supported by Governor Katie Hobbs and Congressman Andy Biggs, which has allowed rapid data center expansion with limited oversight, I believe Arizona must prioritize residents, farmers, and long-term water security. Economic development should benefit Arizona without placing additional burdens on our scarce water resources. My administration will ensure that growth is responsible, transparent, and sustainable for future generations.

AZ Water Crisis is Real

Arizona gubernatorial candidate Andy Biggs said in a FOX 10 interview that Arizona does not have a water crisis and that the state simply needs to manage its water resources better. Critics argue that this position understates the seriousness of Arizona's long-term water challenges. Lake Meade, Colorado River, and Lake Powell have all experienced historically low levels due to prolonged drought, climate change, and over-allocation of river water. Arizona also faces groundwater depletion in some regions and ongoing uncertainty about future Colorado River water allocations. current management practices alone will be sufficient.

Teri Ann Hourihan believes in science and facts of experts reporting long term solutions need to quickly become a reality in Arizona and will do so.
